2016 FIFA FUTSAL WORLD CUP: Canada puts forth heart-filled performance as road to Colombia ends

Posted on 11 May 2016 in Futsal Team
A heart-filled performance was not enough as Canada were eliminated on the road to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016. In need of a draw or better, Canada stretched themselves in the second half, but ultimately lost 4:7 to an experienced Cuban side at the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championship.
Down 3-1 midway through the second half, Canada were caught two more times pressing forward as Cuba celebrated early with a 5-1 lead. Canada came back, though, with Frederico Moojen hitting both posts on one shot before later scoring a brace just 16 seconds apart.
After Vahid Assadpour cut the lead to one with five minutes remaining, however, Cuba scored twice and put the match out of reach. (Read the match summary and report)
Cuba officially qualified for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016 two hours later after Curaçao lost their group finale to Costa Rica. It marked the fifth time that Cuba qualified for the FIFA Futsal World Cup, having previously qualified for four straight editions from 1996 to 2008. Cuba are now tied with USA for the most FIFA Futsal World Cup appearances by a CONCACAF nation.
Costa Rica, Cuba, Panama, and Guatemala are the four CONCACAF nations that have qualified for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016. In Group A, the standings featured Panama with nine points, Guatemala with six points, Mexico with three points, and Honduras with no points. In Group B, the standings featured Costa Rica with nine points, Cuba with four points, Canada with three points, and Curaçao with one point.
In 2016, Canada posted three wins, one draw and two losses in international competition. The national team scored 25 goals and conceded 21 goals against in the six matches. At the end of their run, Canada was just one point short of a place at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016.

Canada one win away from FIFA Futsal World Cup

Posted on 10 May 2016 in Futsal Team
A Monday night 7:4 win over Curaçao has put Canada within a victory of qualifying for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016. With three points after two matches at the 2016 CONCACAF Futsal Championship, Canada can qualify on Tuesday 10 May with a win over Cuba.
In the 7:4 win, Canada's first ever at the CONCACAF Futsal Championship, star-of-the-game Nazim Belguendouz led the way with two goals and two assists. Other Canada goals were scored by Daniel Chamale, Marco Rodriguez, Vahid Assadpour, Frederico Moojen, and Eduardo Jauregui. (Read the match summary and report)

In truth, Canada can either win or draw to finish among the top-two in the group, with leaders Costa Rica the first nation already qualified for Colombia 2016. After two days, Costa Rica (six points, +7 goals difference) leads the group ahead of Canada (three points, +2 goals), Curaçao (one point, -3 goals), and Cuba (one point, -6 goals).
On the last day of the group phase, Canada will face Cuba (17.30 local / 19.30 ET / 16.30 PT) while Costa Rica will face Curaçao (20.00 local / 22.00 ET / 19.00 PT). Both matches will be broadcast on CONCACAF TV via Facebook.
In the opposite group, Panama is in first place (six points, +10 goals) followed by Mexico (three points, +2 goals), Guatemala (three points, +1 goals), and Honduras (0 points, -13 goals). No nation in this group has qualified or been eliminated yet, with the last match day to feature Mexico against Panama and Guatemala against Honduras.
From the eight-nation CONCACAF Futsal Championship in Costa Rica, four nations (two from each group) will qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016. At the end of the group phase, the ranking is based on points, with the first tie breaker goals difference in all group matches and the next tie breaker goals scored.

SASKATOON FUTSAL LEAGUE FINAL 2016: FC UKRAINE CHAMPION

S.F.L. had its Adult Futsal League Final between FC Ukraine and Saeta International. FC Ukraine were the deserved Champions beating Saeta 6-3 in a very highly entertaining and competitive game.

The game started with Saeta applying pressure and taking a quick 2-0 over FC Ukraine. FC Ukraine started to get into rhythm as the game progressed and had a 3-2 lead going into halftime. The 2nd half was very contested with FC Ukraine taking a 4-2 lead before getting into foul accumulation trouble which gave Saeta an opportunity to get back into the game 4-3. Saeta would have 2 more Pk chances that were missed and FC Ukraine ended up taking the match 6-3.
Thanks a lot to everyone that attended. The atmosphere and chanting in the gym made the event a massive success and memorable night for both teams. We are looking forward to our 2016 Fall Championship!!

A packed house at Vaughan Sportsplex and an intense atmosphere had blood boiling in the Men’s Ontario Futsal Cup Final between Toronto United and Futsal Club Toronto
A controversial call near the start of play ensured that hot start, as FCT were awarded a penalty in the first minute of the game.
Kevin Correa converted his penalty to give FCT an early 1-0 lead and send their supporters into a frenzy.
But two goals in 15 seconds for Toronto United would quickly change that.
Marco Rodriguez answered back for United with a clever first touch to equalize the game.
Maxi Oddo added to United’s lead in similar fashion with a blast off his first touch.
Both sides would settle into the game after that and display some patience.
Patience led to Andy Quintanilla goal, as FCT worked it around the United net before calmly tying the game at 2-2.
United would earn a penalty seconds later but FCT’s keeper would make a solid stop to keep it locked.
With both teams out of fouls to give, the game became more of a chess match, rather than the high intensity free for all that was the first half.

With nine minutes remaining, United’s Johnathan Osario slipped his defender to put himself in on net alone. He would make no mistake and his left-footed blast gave United a 3-2 lead.

Harry Anumada would double United’s lead, when he also found himself a little room down the side. His shot had eyes, finding its way through a number of legs and into the back of the net, making it 4-2 United with seven minutes remaining.
With FCT trailing by two with only minutes remaining, they began rotating their keeper out, when they had possession, to ensure an extra attacking man would join the play.
The ploy worked as Joshua Parades’ shot beat the United keeper low, to bring FCT to within one with five minutes remaining.
With FCT continuing to press, United’s Adrian Perez took a red card with only 46 seconds left after a hard tackle. With United down to three men, FCT desperately tried equalize. A shot off the bar in the dying seconds would be as close as they would get though as Toronto United held on to win 4-3 and advance to the Futsal Canadian Championship.
